Michael's iPhone View of England 2014

Here's a Hipstamatic view of our early May, 2014 trip to visit England in the Spring. Suz and I spent a week with our photo mentor and friend Ian Murray and another photographer (Robin Storesund) with Ian driving and providing photo opportunities, personalized instruction, and encouragement in parts of southern England where he lived and worked for years. We started in Canterbury and Kent, then moved west to the area around the Cotswolds. It was here that I started using the iPhone app Hipstamatic, using its Jane "lens" and the Kodot Ex-Grizzled "film." It just seemed to match the way I was seeing things. The Jane lens has ridh blues and greens, a nice way of representing natural colors, and has clean though slightly muted reds. Kodot Ex-Grizzled film gives the ragged edges which make for a slightly surreal feel, and reminds the viewer not to take the images too seriously. To my eyes, the English spring comes to life with the saturated colors of this Hipstamatic lens/film combination (helped along with some basic Lightroom adjustments). As a group, the photos remind me of looking through gray tinted, polarized sunglasses.

After a week with Ian and Robin, Suz and I said good-bye and headed to London where we spent four days enjoying the streets of London. Of course we had other cameras with us, but I've not really had a chance to see those images. Meanwhile, here's a spring Hipstamatic view of the latter parts of our English journey. Suz will post some of her images in the near future. (All photos © 2014 by Michael Karchmer).
